About Me

(Hard at work!)

Hello! I'm Vanessa and I am a Collection Specialist at the University of South Florida's Tampa Library. In addition, I am in my last semester of graduate school. Therefore, I am only months away from graduating with my Master's degree from the University of South Florida in Library & Information Science. I suppose this blog should currently be titled "Memoirs of a Modern Soon-to-be-Librarian"!

This blog was created as part of my exploration into Web 2.0 technologies and how they can be applied in libraries, whether they are public, academic, or special. This blog is still fairly new, so more content is yet to come. It is also part of the 23 Things Project for LIS5937: Teaching Information Literacy. This assignment is my third encounter with this program so far.

Recently, the technical services department at the library where I am employed decided to explore our own version of the 23 Things program developed by Helene Blowers at PLCMC. We have chosen to do a variation of 23 Things on a Stick. Myself and two of my colleagues are the developers of this program, while the rest of our department is working through the lessons we create each week. I wanted to create a blog that would not only chronicle my exploration of Web 2.0 tools and applications, but to potentially serve as a resource for my coworkers as well as others in the profession as we all explore the ever-evolving world of web technologies together. This blog will be a mixture of my further exploration into technology for my class as well as my reflections on the 23 Things on a Stick project at work.
